What is a Certificate Signing Request (CSR)?

A CSR (Certificate Signing Request) is an encoded file generated on your web server that contains information about your organization and domain name.

  • Public Key: It includes the public key that will be embedded in your SSL certificate.
  • Security: When you generate a CSR, a Private Key is also created. You must keep this private key secure on your server; if lost, the SSL cannot be installed or used .
  • Usage: You must provide the CSR text to Hostaday during the activation phase so the Certificate Authority can sign and issue your SSL .
